Been playing it alot, and anyone that liked JA and XCOM will certainly appreciate this one. I got Silent Storm late last week from GoGamer. Not sure what else I can harp on, if you're a fan of the genre get this game! Definitely the best we've seen in several years. Weapons are well done, huge variety in the amount of them. I wasn't really aware of this fact until I ran into a group of Renegade Japanese Samurai in Northern England. Luckily there's enough of them that you don't run into too much repetition.Īnd in case people aren't away, this isn't a historical game, it's gets pretty sci-fi, so be prepared.
It seems that the random missions are all hand drawn maps with maybe one minor thing randomly thrown in. There's no personality to the characters at all a la JA, and no randomly generated ones a la X-Com.which I wish one or the other was in.Īnother thing, the random missions aren't all that random from what I have seen. Apparently the Devs are big X-Com fans and wanted to make Modding it in as easy as possible, we'll see.)Ĭharacter development is a blast, skills raise through use and then you get a perk tree to choose through as well, lot of fun planning out characters.

(Interesting note: There's a full Geoscape accessible through a cheat in the game. The missions seem very well laid out mapwise, maps are much smaller than say JA but very well done.There's no base-building elements, etc like X-Com. The physics engine and the destructable terrain is by far the best I've ever seen in any game to date, that in itself makes the game fun stand out. Is it as good as X-Com or JA? Probably not, for nostalgia reasons, but it's a damn good game. Silent Storm.I would have to say it's pretty easily my Game of the Year and a fantastic Squad Based Tactical game. I had kept meaning to do so, but was too lazy.

You might enjoy the games partly, but most times you will get frustrated and that's not worth it. I'm thinking of giving up this game as well and hope I can spare some others of wasting their time. Another in my group got some other Penalties (those are negative effects you get by being wounded to bad e.g Bleeding) from nowhere! He was only slightly wounded and then without being attacked he got HP Reduction and Bleeding! I wasted 10 and he is still bleeding which means, he will definitely die (=game over). Usually this isn't a serious problem, if you spend 1 or 2 bandages on him. My main hero suffers from "Bleeding" which means I lose 10 HP each round. Even with the cheat to show all enemies the mission is still hard and nearly unbeatable if you encounter other bugs: You will get to a level with invisible enemies (it seems everyone encounters this bug). But here we go again with stupid and game breaking bugs. This one feels better and modern and isn't stretched on 16:9 monitors like the precursor. I moved forward to Silent Storm Sentinels. Thank god, you can give up missions and go to the next ones, but no matter which mission I have chosen after that, the game froze right at the start and then you have to kill the game via terminal. I stopped playing it, because I couldn't beat the mission with the invincible Panzerkleins ( this review explains the issue well). And S² and S³ reminded me sometimes of those times and make me enjoy it partly.īut Silent Storm isn't well made and has annoying flaws. I bought them, because the games Nightwatch and Daywatch, which I really love and played hours of hours as a young gamer, are made by the same Developer and base on the Silent Storm Engine. Also, a turn based strategic game feels really refreshing in the times of fast paced action games. Good things are, that you get along with Silent Storm the Sequel/AddOn(?) Silent Storm Sentinels. Tldr: The game is kinda refreshing and you could enjoy them, if there weren't game breaking bugs. I can't recommend these games (you get two by purchasing) to anybody.
